What is Precision Teaching?

Precision Teaching is a structured approach that uses frequent, brief measurement of a clearly defined skill to monitor progress and help staff decide whether teaching and practice are working.

Who can it be useful for?

It can be useful when a pupil needs to develop accuracy and fluency in a specific skill, for example sight-word reading, phonics, spelling facts or number facts. It may be particularly useful for pupils who need additional practice and overlearning, including some pupils with literacy or numeracy difficulties and SEND.

What does the licence cost?

The standard licence is £250 + VAT (£300 including VAT) for 12 months and covers staff within one licensed school or organisation. There is no per-user charge.

How do we buy a licence?

Complete the school licence request form. Corban Psychology Ltd will manually raise the invoice and issue the licence key with it, normally within 48 hours. The key can then be activated online.

Can several members of staff use it?

Yes. A whole-school licence can be used by staff within the named licensed school. The licence key must not be shared with another school or organisation.

Where is pupil data stored?

Pupil and probe records are stored locally in the browser being used. They are not designed to be stored in the PrecisionTeaching.uk licensing database and do not automatically appear on another device, browser or user profile.

Should we enter pupils' full names?

We recommend using pupil initials rather than full names and following your school's own data-protection procedures.

How often should we back up the data?

Export a backup at least weekly and store it in your school's approved secure network or cloud storage. Export again before changing device, browser or profile, clearing browser data or significant IT maintenance.

What happens if we import a backup?

Importing replaces all Precision Teaching data currently stored in that browser. Export the existing data first if it may be needed.

What if we change computer?

Export the data from the old browser first, store the backup securely, then import that backup on the new school-managed device or browser profile.

What if we lose the licence key?

Email licences@precisionteaching.uk from an appropriate school contact address and we can help with licence access.

What happens after 12 months?

The licence expires unless renewed. Renewal information can be requested through the licence support address.

What if the app is not working?

First check the Help page. If the problem continues, contact product support and describe what you were trying to do, the device/browser being used and any message shown on screen.

Can I use it for maths, letters, colours and shapes?

Yes. Choose the skill type when creating the intervention. Maths uses separate question and answer boxes; colours and shapes are selected visually; words, letters and numbers use a simple target list. The pupil then sees one item at a time during the probe.

What are See → Say and Hear → Write?

These describe the learning channel: how the pupil receives the stimulus and how they respond. For example, word reading may use See → Say, while spelling from dictation may use Hear → Write. The intervention builder lets staff choose the skill area and the learning channel separately and explains how to run the probe.
